How print only notes in PowerPoint

We had seen the steps for adding notes in PowerPoint and now we will see how to print only notes in PowerPoint 2016, 2013 and 2010. The default print settings in PowerPoint is set to full slides and you can change this using the Print option.

Click File menu and then the Print menu option.

In the Print screen, navigate to Settings section then option with the arrow pointing downwards and label as Full Page Slides.

By selecting Notes Pages for Print Layout will print only the notes added for the slides.

Default Print Settings

If you want to change the default Print Layout for the presentation to Notes Pages then you can do the following.

Click File menu then Options link and in the Options window navigate to Advanced option.

Scroll down to “When printing this document” section and select the radio option Use the following print settings and set the value for Print what to Notes. Click Ok button to confirm and save the changes.

Reset slide settings in PowerPoint 2013 & 2010

PowerPoint 2013 and 2010 have a reset option that can be used for resetting the position, size and formatting of slide place holders to the default settings. For example if you have resized the place holders for adding title and subtitle and now want to revert to default settings then you can use this reset option.

The reset option can be accessed via the home menu. In PowerPoint 2010 home menu, navigate to the slides section. And click Reset menu option, to revert the changes done to the slide to the default position.

How to turn off display of screen tips in PowerPoint 2013 & 2010

PowerPoint 2013 and 2010 displays screen tips along with feature description when we hover the mouse over the menu items. By default screen tip feature is enabled in PowerPoint but if you do not want this extra information to be displayed then you can turn off using PowerPoint options.

Click File menu and then Options link

In PowerPoint Options under General tab, navigate to User Interface options.

Set the value for ScreenTip style dropdown to Don’t show ScreenTips and click OK to confirm and save the changes. This would disable the display of screen tips for all menu items in PowerPoint.

Change default file location in PowerPoint 2013 and 2010

In PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010 the default file location set as C:\Users\<username>\Documents\ in a Windows Vista or Windows 7 Operating System. This is the location that will be shown and used as the default location when a user tries to save a presentation file.

PowerPoint provides users with option for changing this default file location to some other folder of your choice. Listed below are the steps to change the default file location in PowerPoint 2010,

Step 1: Click the File menu then the options link.

Step 2: In PowerPoint options window, navigate to Save options and then to the Save presentations section.

Step 3: In Save presentation section, set the folder of your choice for Default file location. For example if you set it to C:\Projects then the Save or Save As option would now default to the newly set folder location as shown below.

Change the default file format in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010

This tutorial explains how to change the default file format in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010 while saving a Presentation file. This is useful when most of your organization users are still using Office 2003. As the Office 2003 users will have compatibility issues when they open a presentation file created using PowerPoint 2010. To fix the issue you can change the default file format for saving a file to be compatible with Office 2003.

Click the file menu and then the options link. In the PowerPoint options window, navigate to Save options.

In the Save Options screen, navigate to Save presentation section and using the Save files in this format drop down you can set the PowerPoint presentation file to be compatible with Office 2003.

After setting the value to PowerPoint Presentation 97-2003, click Ok to confirm and save the changes.

Password protection in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010

The tutorial explains the different ways to password protect a presentation file in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010. You can password protect a presentation in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010 by the following ways

1. Using Info Menu

Click File menu followed by Info and then navigate to Permission section.

Click the down arrow available below the Protect Presentation option and select Encrypt with Password from the drop down list.

This would display the following Encrypt Document window. Enter the password for protecting the file and click OK to save the changes.

Repeat the same as Encrypt Document window for the Confirm Password window as well.

A password protected presentation will be highlighted as shown below.

2. Using File –> Save As

The other alternate way to protect a presentation file is to use the General Options same as password protection of a PowerPoint 2007 presentation. Click the File mu then the Save As option. In the Save As dialog box, select General Options available as part of tools drop down list.

Using the General Options, you can set password to open as well as password to modify a PowerPoint presentation file. After entering the required details, click OK to confirm and save the changes.

To remove password protection for a presentation, Navigate to Protect Presentation section as discussed earlier and select the Encrypt Password from the list. Now clear the password that was already set for the Presentation then click OK to confirm the changes.

How to disable advance slide on mouse click in PowerPoint

In this short beginners PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010 tutorial, we will see the steps to disable advance slide on mouse click. During a slide show, you can move to next slide either by pressing ENTER or SPACEBAR on keyboard or on mouse click. And using Transitions menu, you can disable or enable the advance slide on mouse click.

If you want to disable the feature, then un mark the check box labelled as On Mouse Click.

How to set Keynote as default application for PPT file

Mac OS X Lion is pre-installed with OpenOffice software and this is set as the default application for opening any PowerPoint presentation file. Mentioned below are the steps required to set Apple Keynote as the default application for opening PPT file.

  • Launch Finder application on Mac and locate the PPT file.
  • Right click on the PPT file, navigate to Open With and Select Other option.

  • This would display the following Choose Application window.

  • Scroll down the application list and pick Keynote. Then mark the check box with label as “Always Open With” and click the Open button.

  • This would launch the Keynote application with the selected PowerPoint Presentation file.

Now when ever a PPT file is opened, it will be automatically opened in Apple Keynote.
