Password protection in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010

The tutorial explains the different ways to password protect a presentation file in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010. You can password protect a presentation in PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2010 by the following ways

1. Using Info Menu

Click File menu followed by Info and then navigate to Permission section.

Click the down arrow available below the Protect Presentation option and select Encrypt with Password from the drop down list.

This would display the following Encrypt Document window. Enter the password for protecting the file and click OK to save the changes.

Repeat the same as Encrypt Document window for the Confirm Password window as well.

A password protected presentation will be highlighted as shown below.

2. Using File –> Save As

The other alternate way to protect a presentation file is to use the General Options same as password protection of a PowerPoint 2007 presentation. Click the File mu then the Save As option. In the Save As dialog box, select General Options available as part of tools drop down list.

Using the General Options, you can set password to open as well as password to modify a PowerPoint presentation file. After entering the required details, click OK to confirm and save the changes.

To remove password protection for a presentation, Navigate to Protect Presentation section as discussed earlier and select the Encrypt Password from the list. Now clear the password that was already set for the Presentation then click OK to confirm the changes.

How to set Keynote as default application for PPT file

Mac OS X Lion is pre-installed with OpenOffice software and this is set as the default application for opening any PowerPoint presentation file. Mentioned below are the steps required to set Apple Keynote as the default application for opening PPT file.

  • Launch Finder application on Mac and locate the PPT file.
  • Right click on the PPT file, navigate to Open With and Select Other option.

  • This would display the following Choose Application window.

  • Scroll down the application list and pick Keynote. Then mark the check box with label as “Always Open With” and click the Open button.

  • This would launch the Keynote application with the selected PowerPoint Presentation file.

Now when ever a PPT file is opened, it will be automatically opened in Apple Keynote.

Add Title, Tag and Category to PowerPoint Presentations

This tutorial explains how to add title, tag and category information to a PowerPoint Presentation file. Adding Title, Tag and Category information will keep you more organized and also help us during searches in a shared environment. To add these information to your PowerPoint Presentation file, click the File menu then Info menu option.

In the Info screen navigate to the section on the right hand side.

You can start providing the required details for your presentation file by editing the field adjacent to Title, Tags and Categories respectively. Also using the Related People section you can addition authors information as shown below. You can add the people from either your contacts or using the your address book.

After adding the required information, click the File –> Save options to save the entered details.
