How to change startup folder in Outlook

When we launch Microsoft Outlook, the default startup folder will be Inbox.

The startup folder can be changed to your preferred choice using outlook options menu. Listed below are the steps to change the startup folder in Outlook 2016, 2013, Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2007.

In Outlook 2016, 2013 and Outlook 2010 the startup folder can be using the settings available as part of Advanced Mail options.

Click on the File menu –> Options link and navigate to the Advanced options

In Outlook start and exit section, using the Start Outlook in this folder field you can specify the startup folder. If you want to select a different folder other than Inbox then click on the Browse button and using the Select Folder dialog box you choose the required folder. Click OK button to select the folder. To save the changes, click on the OK button in the Advanced Options screen.

For example, you attend lot of meeting and want to start your day with list of meetings that is scheduled for that day. So you want to have Calendar as the startup folder in Outlook.

Click the File menu –> Options link then click the Advanced tab under Outlook Options window. In the Advanced Options, navigate to Outlook start and exit section.

Click the Browse button and select Calendar from the displayed items.

Then click Ok button to confirm and save the changes. By this way Outlook 2010 users can set Calendar as the startup folder.

Go to Tools –> Options –> Other tab and click on the Advanced button

In the Advanced Options dialog box under General settings, you can specify the value for Startup in the folder

The new folder can be selected using the Browse button.

select the new folder and click OK to save the changes.

How to start Microsoft Edge with blank page

Microsoft Edge is the new Internet browser that has replaced Internet Explorer in Windows 10. When you start Microsoft Edge, by default it starts with Top sites.

Listed below are the steps to start Microsoft Edge with Blank Web page.

Step 1: Start Microsoft Edge and click More actions option available at the Top left hand corner.

Step 2: Select Settings from the drop down list.

Step 3: In the Open with radio option, select New tab page option.

Step 4: Navigate to Open new tabs with section and click the drop down.

Step 5: Select A blank page from the list of available option.

Now when you restart Microsoft Edge, it should start with a blank page.

Auto launch Outlook at Windows Startup

Lot of office users would like to start their day by reading their emails. Configuring Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010 to automatically launch at Windows startup would definitely benefit these users. This can be done by adding Outlook to the Startup option available as part of the Start Menu.

This requires the following two steps

  • Creating a Outlook application shortcut. For creating Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010 shortcut check out the article on Windows Desktop shortcut for Office 2010 application.
  • Copying Outlook shortcut to Windows startup folder.
  • Right click on the Start button and select Explore from the menu list.

    Expand the Start Menu folder in the explorer window then navigate to the Startup folder and copy Outlook 2010 shortcut file to Startup folder.

    How to launch Word 2013 with blank document

    Word 2013 by default displays the start screen during the launch. But if you find this feature not useful and want to always open blank document when launching the application then you can use the settings available part Word 2013 options.

    Step 1: Launch Word 2013 and click the File menu.

    Step 2: From the left hand sidebar, select Options from the list.

    Step 3: In the Word Options window, navigate to Startup Options under the General tab.

    Step 4: Unmark the check box with label as Show the Start screen when this application starts. Then click OK button to confirm and save the changes.

    Now when ever you launch Word 2013 it will open a blank document.
