How to insert or remove pages in Word

This tutorial explains the steps required to insert or delete empty pages in Word 2016, 2013 and 2010.

Adding new page to Word document

There are different ways of inserting new page in Word document such as

  • Using the Blank Page option available as part of Insert menu.
  • Using the Page Break option  available as part of Insert menu.
  • Simply press Enter on the Keyboard at the end of page.

Navigate to Insert menu and click the Black Page option under Pages section.

When you want quickly insert multiple blank pages then you can use this option.

If you want to create a new page with the existing content then click the Page Break option under the Pages section.

The most easiest way to add new page is by pressing the Enter key on the Keyboard at the bottom of an existing page.

Delete page

Users can remove an empty or blank pages in Word document by

  • Pressing the Backspace key on the Keyboard from the end of the page that needs to be removed.
  • Pressing the Delete key on the Keyboard from the end of the page after which the pages needs to be removed.
  • Use the Show paragraph marker then press the Delete key on the Keyboard

Insert check mark in Microsoft Word

Insert check mark in Word 2010 and Word 2013

This tutorial provides steps required to insert tick or check mark in Word 2010, Word 2013 and Word 2016. The most common method is to use the option available as part of Insert > Symbol. Another alternate way is to change the font type to Windings 2 and use the shortcut key for adding the tick mark.

Step 1: In the word document, place the cursor to the position where you want to insert tick mark.

Step 2: Click Insert menu, navigate to Symbols section and click the down arrow available below Symbols

Step 3: Select More Symbols from the dropdown list.

Step 4: Select the tick symbol available under Symbol window.

If you do not see the tick symbol, then change the Font to Windings 2 and select the tick symbol from the list.

The quickest way to insert tick mark is by changing the font type of your Word document to Windings 2 and then use Keyboard combination “Shift + P”.

Insert and Save watermark in Microsoft Word

In this tutorial we see the steps required to Insert, Save watermark in Word 2013, Word 2010 and Word 2007. Word users can insert a watermark in a document using the option available as part of the Page Layout menu.

Step 1: Click on the Page Layout (Word 2010 and Word 2007) / Design (Word 2016 and Word 2013)  menu then navigate to the Page Background section.

Step 2: Click the Watermark drop down under the Page Background section.

Step 3: Click the Custom Watermark option to add your own text for the Watermark.

Step 4: Now enter your text by selecting Text Watermark radio option and providing the required Text. Click the Apply button to add the Watermark to the document.

If you want to insert picture watermark in the document then In the Printed Watermark window, choose Picture watermark radio option and select the logo that needs to be added as watermark. Then select appropriate Scale and Washout option for the Watermark. In this example, I have selected the logo of Digital Answers blog.

Step 5: Click Apply to have the preview of the Watermark. And if you are satisfied with the changes then click the OK button.

Save Watermark in Word 2013, Word 2010 and Word 2007

Step 1: Double click the Header section of document and select the Watermark as shown below.

Step 2: Click the Design menu (Word 2013) or Page Layout menu (Word 2010 and Word 2007) and navigate to the Watermark option under Page Background section. Then select Save Selection to Watermark Gallery from the drop down.

Step 3: In the Create New Building Block window, enter name for the Watermark and click OK button.

Newly saved Watermark should now be available as part of the Gallery.

How to change hyperlink style in Word

We had covered earlier about the steps required for adding hyperlink and email address in a Word document. Now let us see how to change the default style of hyperlink in Word 2013 and Word 2010.

Step 1: Open the Word 2013 app and select Hyperlink in the Word document.

Step 2: Click the Styles option available under Home menu.

Step 3: Navigate to Hyperlink in Styles list then select Modify option from the drop down.

Step 4: Now if you want to the change the font used for Hyperlink then click the dropdown under Formatting section and select a suitable font. Similarly you can change Font size, Font Style and Colour.

How to reduce size of document with images in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word provides users with the option to reduce the file size of the document with images. In this tutorial, we will see the technique of reducing the file size in Word 2013 and Word 2011 for Mac.

Word 2013 users can use the Compress Pictures option available as part of Format Picture to compress the images in the document.

Step 1: Click the Format menu in Microsoft Word 2013. Please note the Format menu will be available only after selecting the image on the document.

Step 2: In the Format menu, navigate to Adjust section and click the Compress Pictures option. This should display the following Compress Pictures window.

Now you can choose the desired option under Compression options and Target Output. Let say you want to only share the document with other users using email, then go for “E-mail (96 ppi): minimize document size for sharing”.

Step 3: After selecting the required options, click Ok button to apply the changes to images.

Step 1: Select the image in the document and click Format Picture menu.

Step 2: Under Format Picture menu, click the Compress Option. This should display the following Reduce File Size screen.

Step 3: Now choose the Picture Quality drop down to apply appropriate picture quality as per your needs. You can apply the changes to all the pictures in the file or just Selected pictures

Step 4: Click OK button to apply the changes to the document.

How to use Word 2013 for creating greeting cards

Personalized Greeting cards can add to the joy of the person who receives it. The efforts that you put in making the greeting card clearly shows your love for the person. With Word 2013 installed on your computer, the process becomes very easy. However, you will need a printer and good quality paper to print the greeting card you create. Let’s learn how to create greeting card in Word 2013.

1. Launch Word 2013

2. Open any Word document

3. Click on File

4. Click on New

You can see different templates which also includes some greeting templates. If you are not happy with the available templates, you can search for greeting templates online.

If you are looking to create a greeting card for Christmas, type Christmas greeting card in search bar and you will get relevant results. You can use a generic search term such as greeting card in the search bar to find variety of greeting card templates.

5. Select any desired template from the search results.

6. To view front side and inner side of the greeting card simultaneously, click on View-> Multiple Pages

You can add or delete text or images in any section of the greeting card. For example, you can add Clip arts, images, change font size/font color/font type or change layout of the greeting card.

7. To add clip art or image in the greeting card, click on Insert

8. Position your mouse pointer where you want to add the design element

9. Click on Pictures/Shapes or Text Box

Once you have finished editing your greeting card, you can go ahead and print your greeting card.

Steps to print greeting card:

1. Click on File

2. Scroll down and Click on Print

If the printer is installed you can find name of the attached printing device in the list

3. Enter the number of copies in Copies:

4. Under Settings-> Select All pages

Alternatively you can also select 1st (front page) or 2nd page (inner page) of the greeting card.

5. Click on Print.

How to import word document in to Publisher 2013

Microsoft Publisher automatically converts a word document in to Publisher File. Listed below are the steps for importing a word document using Publishing 2013.

Step 1: Launch Publisher 2013.

Step 3: Click File menu and select Open from the menu list.

Step 3: Now locate the word document that needs to imported in to Publisher using the Open Publishing window.

On clicking the Open button, Publisher will automatically convert the Word document in to a Publisher file with the following “Publisher is converting the file” message.

How to insert horizontal line in Word

Listed below are the steps required for inserting horizontal line in Word 2013.

Step 1: Open the document where you want to add horizontal line in Word 2013.

Step 2: Position mouse cursor at the point of insertion.

Step 3: Navigate to the Paragraph section in the Home menu.

Step 4: Click the Border menu option and select Horizontal line from drop down menu list.

This should insert a horizontal line at the current cursor position as shown below.
