Windows shortcut for renaming a folder

July 12, 2010 By Ravi Shankar 4 Comments

Renaming a folder in Windows operating system can be done by right clicking on the folder and selecting Rename from the context menu.

But if you want to rename number of files then the above process would be time consuming. The quickest way of renaming a folder is to use Windows Keyboard shortcut. Select the folder and press F2 and this would allow us to rename the folder.

Thank you for this Mister Shankar! I remember my mom showing me this shortcut way back in the day when I was “manually” renaming Napster music folders. Haha. I have wanted to remember what the shortcut was for ages, but never got around to it.

    P.S.
Your name reminds me of the classic Simpsons episode, Bart of Darkness, where Bart breaks his lef falling from the tree house onto the ground, instead of the pool. Bart gets stuck in his room all Summer and is watching Krusty a rerun, where Ravi Shankar is the musical guest.

Ahh pointless nostalgia which nobody, including you, will probably never see. Ahahaa.

    Really useful shortcut.
Especially for us who download movies and we connect them with the subtitles.
    Thanks.
